The week of September 3-9 we will celebrate all things FOOD in Lamar County! The United Way of Lamar County (UWLC) is recognizing the start of our annual fundraising campaign by inviting owners/managers of all local eating establishments: restaurants, clubs, stands, and food trucks, to designate one day of this week as UWLC Day and donate a portion of their proceeds to help get a great start to this year’s United Way campaign.
“We all eat out,” says Angela Chadwick, UW Kick-Off Committee Chairperson. “Let’s work with our local dining establishments to channel some of the money spent to meet community needs through the United Way!” She expressed that these establishments won’t lose money if we all participate and support their businesses this week, allowing them to be extra-busy. “It takes the community coming together to accomplish our goal.”
Robin Kennedy, UWLC’s 2018 Campaign Chairperson has announced the fundraising goal for the upcoming campaign is $500,000. “It takes a lot of money to support the great work of the many deserving non-profit agencies in Lamar County that depend on financial grants from UWLC to meet the needs of their clients. These agencies, including Boys & Girls Club, American Red Cross, Children’s Advocacy Center, Salvation Army, and more, do such great work in our community. We would love to see our total amount raised far surpass our $500,000 goal. But, that will take everyone playing a part.”
- 23 local nonprofit agencies are supported by UWLC.
