ERCOT defends its call for controlled outages in Texas, as Governor Abbott asks lawmakers to investigate their handling of the situation. ERCOT CEO Bill Magness said that the record demand on the state’s power grid Sunday night came as power plants started failing at a surprising rate. ERCOT officials also said they warned the energy companies on February 8 of the expected cold-front, advising them to make sure they had reviewed their fuel supplies and implemented winterization procedures.
