Robin Cole-Jett

The Lamar County Genealogical Society May meeting will be at 7:00 pm on Tuesday (May 14). Our speaker will be Robin Cole-Jett. This is the third in a series of speakers from the historic sites in our area. Robin Cole-Jett is a publisher of Red River Historian, History where the South meets the West. She works as the Site Interpreter for the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site in Denison and will soon finish her fifth book, “Traveling History among Ghost Towns in the Red River Valley.” Born in Paris, she now resides in Denton County.

Robin has a presentation that she would like to share – about the Good Roads Movement in the Red River Valley, including tours to take on the old roads. Lots of maps and great information. She states that she recently developed an exhibit about it for the Eisenhower Birthplace so this might be a great topic.

Short description of the program: Drive down the highway and byways around the Red River Valley by learning about the history of roads in this entertaining presentation. Robin Cole-Jett, publisher of Red River Historian and the Educator at the Eisenhower State Historic Site, will explain the over-looked but seriously interesting history of the “Good Roads Movement” that made the Red River Valley accessible to travelers near and far. Join her in uncovering ancient paths, colorful maps, strange bicycles, horseless carriages, and military convoys!
