June Genealogy Meeting

Plan to attend the Red River County Genealogical Society meeting, on Monday, June 12, at 7:00 pm at the Red River County Chamber of Commerce meeting room on the square in Clarksville. The speaker is to be Jim Ainsworth, the award-winning author of 15 books. He has been with us several times and presented an enjoyable program.

After writing four books in the financial services field, Jim retraced his ancestors’ trip across Texas by covered wagon and horseback. The trip inspired a memoir, which led to ten novels, a story collection, a book about faith, and many newspaper, magazine, and blog articles and stories. He grew up on hardscrabble farms in Northeast Texas and the Panhandle. He writes based on his experiences. Always a wannabe cowboy, he still lives in the country with his wife, Jan, and horse. The June program will focus on his latest book, Where the Remuda Gather, and he should have copies available for sale at the meeting. Here is a review of the book:

Ridge Rivers grew up on a small, hardscrabble farm in Northeast Texas and the Panhandle. His lifelong dream was to be a cowboy and own a ranch. Barely finished with school, he and a friend left with two horses and a mule packed with essentials for a month-long, five-hundred-mile journey to the Texas Panhandle to follow his dream. Ridge became a capable and trusted ranch hand on a ranch near the Canadian River. The owners even took him to their local church and allowed him to court their daughter. He felt his dreams coming true when they saved Ridge in that church. But then, “Nothing captures the spirit, the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of small-town Texas as Jim Ainsworth’s writing does.”
