Red River County Genealogical Society

The Red River County Genealogical Society invites everyone to attend the monthly meeting Monday, August 9, at 7:00 pm at the Red River County Chamber of Commerce Meeting Room, on the square in Clarksville. The program for this month will be “The Hunt for the Red River,” presented by Robin Cole-Jett.

“The Hunt for the Red River” explores the various expeditions that attempted to learn the route of the river, from the earliest, in 1806, to the most successful, in 1852. Robin shares period maps to convey both the known and unknown of the Red River and even hints at some mysteries of both geography and history.

Robin is the Red River Historian. For over twenty years, she has researched, documented, and shared the history of the Red River Valley of the Southwest through her website, presentations, books, articles, social media, and even a few TV appearances.

A born Texan with family roots all over the Red River Valley in Louisiana, Robin received her bachelor’s degree at East Texas State University, her Masters of Education at the University of North Texas, and her Masters of Arts in History from Texas Woman’s University. In addition, she has completed some doctoral work in higher education and anthropology. Robin vacillates her professional life between stints of writing, teaching, road-tripping, and museum consulting work.
