Fairfield Lake State Park had its last day of public access this week. Texas Parks and Wildlife says the state leased the 1,460-acre park from Texas Utilities in 1972 and opened it in 1976. The nearly 50-year state land lease ended in February. The state’s efforts to buy the land failed, and a Dallas developer bought it. There are rumors of high-end homes, a gated community, and a golf course.
