For the first time in 18 years, the FDA has approved a drug to combat Alzheimer’s. Unlike previous medications, aduhelm does more than treat symptoms. They think it slows the progression by killing plaque in the brain that disrupts nerve connections. Dr. Douglas Scharre at Ohio State says the drug is most beneficial for people in the early stages of the disease. Texas ranks fourth in the number of Alzheimer’s cases and second in Alzheimer’s deaths.
