There’s a full slate of High School football on tap for tonight. On the radio, Mt Pleasant heads to Whitehouse on KLAKE 97.7 at 7:30 pm, Paris is at Melissa on 101.9 KBUS, and on STAR Country 96.9 at 7:30 pm, there’s a big district showdown between two unbeaten teams in Mt Vernon, as the Tigers host Hughes Springs. Other games tonight include: Kilgore at Pittsburg, Pual Pewitt is at Ore City, Daingerfield will host Elysian Fields, Newton visits Gilmer, North Lamar is at Anna on MIX 107.7 and Rivercrest is at Maud. Sulphur Springs is off.

On Mix 107-7, the North Lamar Panthers will travel to Anna to take on the Coyotes. Anna comes in with a 3-1 pre-district record while North Lamar is looking for their first win of the season. On 101.9 KBUS, the Paris Wildcats travel to Melissa to take on the Cardinals. Melissa is 2-2 while the 5th ranked Wildcats are 3-1. Pregame for both those games begins at 7:00 pm with kickoff set for 7:30. The Prairiland Patriots will open district play at home against Cooper. Both teams are 1-3 coming into district play. The Chisum Mustangs look to build on their 55-8 win over Clarksville last week as they host Whitewright. The Mustangs enter the game 1-3 while the Tigers are 3-1 on the season. The Rivercrest Rebels take their undefeated record to Maud to face the 2-1 Cardinals. The Honey Grove Warriors will host the Clarksville Tigers. Honey Grove comes in with an undefeated 4-0 record while the Tigers are 2-2. The 2-2 Detroit Eagles host the 3-1 Cumby Trojans. Keep track of these and other games tonight on Goal Line on KOYN 93-9.

Volleyball also starts district play for Paris and Prairiland. The Lady Cats host Pittsburg while the Lady Patriots are on the road against Commerce. In other district action, Rivercrest travels to Maud while Detroit hosts Clarksville.

Week 4 In the NFL got underway last night in Green Bay with the Packers losing to Philadelphia 34-27. The Eagles intercepted Aaron Rogers on the goal line in the final minute of the game to preserve the victory.

The Stars finished their next to last preseason game with a loss 2-1. to Minnesota. Dallas plays Colorado Saturday night before opening the season next week against the Boston Bruins.

In College football this weekend, Texas Tech is at #6 Oklahoma, #5 Ohio State is at Nebraska, Ole Miss is at Alabama, Arkansas is at #23 Texas A&M, #24 Kansas State is at Oklahoma State and Kansas is at TCU.

As talks continue for a new collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the players’ union, the most dramatic proposal on the table from owners is an expanded regular season to 17 games that could eliminate preseason games in their entirety. The NFL Players Association is not interested in an expanded season, especially without a significant increase in its percentage of the revenue.

Mike Minor’s 200th strikeout of the season for the Texas Rangers came with some controversy Thursday. With one out in the ninth inning and Minor a strikeout away from reaching the mark for the first time in his career, the left-hander got the Red Sox’s Chris Owings to pop up a 1-2 pitch into foul territory. Minor, catcher Jose Trevino and first baseman Ronald Guzman converged on the ball, but Guzman let it drop in front of him, allowing Owings’ at-bat to continue. Minor struck him out on the very next pitch for his ninth strikeout of the game and 200th of his season. The Rangers won 7-5. They will host the Yankees tonight at 7:05 pm. Pregame on 1490am and 96.3fm KPLT begins at 6:30.
