Football Friday Plus Rangers Open Important Series Tonight

Paris – Tonight area teams play week two of the Texas high school football season. The Paris Wildcats host the Pleasant Grove Hawks on 101.9 KBUS. The North Lamar Panthers welcome in Mt. Pleasant on MIX 107.7. Our KOYN game of the week will feature the Prairiland Patriots hosting Queen City on 93.9. In other action around the area the Chisum Mustangs travel to take on the Honey Grove Warriors. The Cooper Bulldogs host Emory Rains. Detroit is at Como-Pickton and Rivercrest will travel to Trenton. All games kick off at 7:30.

Mount Pleasant – Area football teams play week 2 of the Texas high school football season. Last night the Hughes Springs Mustangs drop to 1-1 on the season after last night’s 42-20 to the Arp Tigers. Tonight the Paul Pewitt Brahmas will be on Star 96.9 when they face the Jefferson Bulldogs and the Mt. Pleasant Tigers are on the road against the North Lamar Panthers on K LAKE 97.7. Pittsburg hosts Pine Tree. Daingerfield travels to Atlanta. Mt. Vernon welcomes Brook Hill. And Gilmer will host Center. All games kick off at 7:30.

Sulphur Springs – Area football teams play week 2 of the Texas high school football season. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats are in Orlando, Florida, where they’ll take on the Seminole Ridge Hawks. Sulphur Springs is 1-0 after a 43-42 week 1 win. Kickoff tonight is set for 8pm. In other area action the Mt. Vernon Tigers host Brook Hill. The Cooper Bulldogs host Emory Rains. Commerce travels to Leonard. Como-Pickton will host Detroit. And Quinlan Ford will travel to Winnsboro. All games kick off at 7:30.

Last night the Dallas Cowboys fall to the Houston Texans 28-17 in pre-season game number four. Despite the loss, several players stood out as the Cowboys look to make the final 53 man roster. Rookie 6th round defensive back, Anthony Brown, intercepted a Brandon Weeden pass and returned it 59 yards for the touchdown. Fellow 6th round selection, Darius Jackson, totaled 53 yards and a touchdown on the night. And undrafted rookies linebackers Deon King and Derek Akunne recorded double digit tackles. The final cut down from 75 to 53 is tomorrow at 3pm.

The Texas Rangers welcome divisional in-state rival Houston to Globe Life Park for a three game series. The Rangers lead the Astros in the AL West by 8.5 games with an 80-54 record. On the hill for Texas will be A. J. Griffin while Houston counters with Doug Fister. First pitch tonight [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm] is set for 7:05.

In the second round of the U.S. Open 2nd ranked Andy Murray eliminates Marcel Granollers in three sets. 3rd ranked Stan Wawrinka……And on the women’s side top ranked Serena Williams beats Vania King to advance at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
