For The Love Of All Things Natural, Cooper Lake State Park Can Be Your Special Place!

Cooper, TX— For the love of all things natural, Cooper Lake State Park can be your special place. Awe-inspiring sunrises and amazing sunsets are just a sample of all the natural goodness waiting for you, your family, and your friends. February is a wildcard month in Texas when it comes to weather. We may have the perfect warm afternoons to enjoy a hike through our post-oak forests or a successful day fishing at the Park, catching rainbow trout, crappie, or blue catfish. However, cold periods also provide a unique opportunity to experience a late winter camping adventure. Imagine huddled around a roaring campfire, sipping hot chocolate, sharing stories, and enjoying s’mores! February and Cooper Lake State Park are a perfect pair for winter adventuring.

Several fun educational and recreational programs celebrating Black History Month are scheduled at the Park this month! Join Ranger O’Conner; she will take you and your family on a journey of exploration! This month we have highlighted programs ranging from “Kids Fishing”, “Art in the Park,” “Archery,” “Dutch Oven Cooking,” and “Stories about our Buffalo Soldiers.”

Trout fishing continues this month at the South Sulphur Unit. So try your luck catching rainbow trout! Parking is available at Park HQ. Follow the signs to the trout pond. No fishing license is required, and there is a five-trout limit per person – Good luck!

Park entrance fees are $5 for adults, with kids 12 and under always free. Senior Texans 65 or older will only pay $3 to enter the Park daily with a Bluebonnet Pass. Additionally, you can accomplish unlimited Park entrances for you and everyone in your vehicle by purchasing a Texas State Park Annual Pass for $70, which is suitable for over 12 months. All events are free with a valid entrance permit. For more information on this or other events and programs at Cooper Lake State Park, please visit our Texas Parks and Wildlife Department website or like our Facebook pages, Cooper Lake State Park – South Sulphur and Cooper Lake State Park – Doctors Creek.
