After deliberating for about 90 minutes, former Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger has been sentenced to ten years in prison for the murder of her neighbor Botham Jean. She’s eligible for parole in five years. Guyger could have received anywhere from five years to life in prison. A prosecutor had told jurors that they shouldn’t sentence Guyger to less than 28 years, which is how old Jean would have been today. After the sentence was announced, the brother of the victim, told Amber that Botham Jean would want her to turn her life over to Jesus. He then asked for and received permission to hug Guyger. The judge in the case also hugged Guyger.
