Former Houston Minister Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison For Embezzlement

A former minister at Houston’s First Baptist Church was sentenced to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty stealing more than $800,000 from the megachurch over a six-year period. Prosecutors say 40-year-old Jerrell Altic, a missions pastor at the church, used the money to fund overseas trips, get a doctorate from a Bible School and live outside of his means. Officials say the thefts, which occurred between 2011 and 2017, were a combination of a series of misrepresentations and forgery but did not provide details.
