Friday Night’s Basketball Results in Today’s Local Sports

Paris – The crosstown showdown on the hardwood defined what a rivalry is down to its very definition. Starting on Friday night with the North Lamar Pantherette’s winning 51-49 over the Paris Lady Cats on a Bailey Jones basket at the buzzer. The Pantherette’s improve to 6-3 in district play. The Lady Cats fall to 0-9. Then on Saturday North Lamar pushed the game into overtime, but the 8th ranked Paris Wildcats dominated the extra period to win 71-59. Paris boys remain unbeaten in district 15-4A at 7-0. North Lamar falls to 3-4. The 2nd ranked Clarksville Tigers improve to 7-0 as well after beating Simms Bowie 59-17. The district champion Clarksville Lady Tigers won 56-19 over the Lady Pirates. Meanwhile, Prairiland falls short to DeKalb 83-78.

Sulphur Springs – District play in high school basketball picked back up Friday night. The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats put themselves en route to a district title with a 44-42 over Hallsville. With the win the Lady Cats are 11-2 in district play and 24-6 overall. The Sulphur Springs boys fall to 3-8 in district following their 70-53 loss to Hallsville. Meanwhile the 8th ranked Winnsboro Lady Raiders are still seeking a district title after beating Grand Saline 70-37. The Lady Raiders improve to 12-1 in district play and 26-5 overall on the season. District play for girls high school basketball wraps up tomorrow night.

In college hoops the Texas A&M Commerce Lions win on the road 70-66 over Midwestern state.

Mount Pleasant – District play in high school basketball picked back up Friday night. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers improve to 8-3 in district 15-5A after a 56-53 win over Pine Tree. The Tigers are back on the court tomorrow at Longview. The 25th ranked Daingerfield Tigers stay perfect at 10-0 in district play beating Chapel Hill 51-39. The 14th ranked Chapel Hill Lady Devils dominate the Lady Tigers 103-23. The Chapel Hill girls improve to 10-1 in district. Meanwhile the 8th ranked Winnsboro Lady Raiders are still seeking a district title after beating Grand Saline 70-37. The Lady Raiders improve to 12-1 in district play and 26-5 overall on the season. District play for girls high school basketball wraps up tomorrow night.

In the NBA the Dallas Mavericks pick up a big win on Saturday night 114-110. Chandler Parsons led the Mavs with 26 points and 8 rebounds. Dallas is now 29-25 on the season and remain in 3rd place in the southwest division and 6th in the western conference.

The Dallas Stars didn’t fare as well Saturday, getting blown out 5-1 to the Chicago Blackhawks. Tyler Seguin scored the lone goal for the Stars, while Chicago’s Patrick Kane scored the 5th goal for the Blackhawks, his NHL leading 32nd of the season. The Stars remain in 2nd place in the western conference.

And the Denver Broncos win Super Bowl 50 over the Carolina Panthers 24-10. Desoto, Texas own Von Miller was named Super Bowl MVP after recording 6 tackles, 2 and a half sacks and forced two fumbles. Demarcus Ware added five tackles and two sacks. Now, the question is will Peyton Manning retire following his 200th career win, the most in NFL history.
