Maverick’s center/power forward Christian Wood fractured his left thumb and will be re-evaluated next week. Wood suffered the injury during the second quarter of the Mavs’ 130-122 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday but finished the game, scoring 22 points and grabbing nine rebounds.

Trailing by as much as 15 in Thursday night’s game at Lakefront Arena, the Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s basketball team came from behind to down the New Orleans Privateers 74-69 to remain undefeated in conference play. The Lions head across the lake to Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday at 5:00 pm.

Despite being down by ten at halftime and trailing by as much as 12, the Texas A&M University-Commerce men’s basketball team won back-to-back games for the first time in conference play by winning 63-58 over the New Orleans Privateers on Thursday night at Lakefront Arena. The weekend concludes with a trip across the lake to Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday at 3:30 pm.

HIGH SCHOOL

The suspensions after the Texas High vs. Tyler basketball game last Friday ranged from one to five games, according to Tyler ISD athletic director Greg Priest. The game was in Texarkana, and they based the suspensions on their involvement in the altercation.

The Tigers travel to Tyler to take on the Lions in a District 15-5A matchup. Only two games will be played, with the sub-varsity starting at 5:30 pm and the Varsity tipping off at 7:00.

The girl’s 7th and 8th grade A teams from Mount Pleasant Junior High School each won their divisions in the I-30 Throwdown basketball tournament hosted by MPJH last weekend. The 8A Lady Tigers defeated Boulter 51-7, Moore 35-8, and Hubbard 33-30 to claim the 8th-grade tournament championship. The 7A Lady Tigers beat Three Lakes 37-15, Moore 52-7, and Hubbard 31-22 to win the 7th-grade tournament, their second tournament championship this season. The 8A Head Coach is Genesis Alvarez, and the 7A Head Coach is Crystal Jackson.
