The Texas Transportation Commission in its August meeting approved $1.1 million in funding for Cox Field near Paris in Lamar County.
The funds are earmarked for hangar and pavement improvements at the airport. A project bid for this work will be completed later this summer. Project costs will be funded through the City of Paris and through TxDOT’s Aviation Facilities Grant Program, which is designed to preserve and improve the state’s general aviation system.
This year TxDOT expects to provide approximately $60 million in funding for planning, constructing and maintaining community airports statewide. Currently there are approximately 275 community airports in Texas eligible for funding through this program.
Arrivals and departures from community airports account for more than three million flight hours per year and provide aircraft facilities for agricultural, medical, business and commuter use.
