Girls Playoff Results Plus Mavs Win Big In Today’s Sports Update

Coming into last night’s game with Prairiland, the Chapel Hill Red Devils had scored 103 and 108 points in their previous two playoff games. They had also scored over 100 points the last time they played Prairiland. They came in as the number one team in the state and the defending state champions.

The Lady Patriots played a great game defensively despite losing 58-41 in the regional quarterfinal game. The difference in the game came from behind the three-point arc where Chapel Hill knocked down 10 including 8 in the first half. Prairiland could only score three from three-point land. Hannah Murdock led Prairiland with 10 points.

The North Lamar Panthers lost their Bi-District matchup last night against Henderson 60-45. The Panthers only trailed by 7 going to the fourth before Henderson pulled away.

Tonight on 101.9 KBUS, the Paris Wildcats will begin their playoffs against Cumberland Academy in Sulphur Springs. The tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.

Also tonight, Atlanta and Chisum play in Pittsburg at 6:00 pm, while Rivercrest plays Hawkins at 6:00 pm in Greenville.

In softball, North Lamar will travel to Texas High, Chisum will host Como Pickton, and Prairiland is at Genoa Arkansas.

The Dallas Mavericks put on an offensive explosion last night as they defeated Minnesota 139-123. Luka Doncic finished with 20 points 9 rebounds and 7 assists for Dallas. Tim Hardaway Jr had 23 points for Dallas.

And the Stars are in Carolina tonight for the start of a three-game road trip.

REGION XIV

Northeast Eagles canceled their baseball games today. To wet, to play, so next up is Thursday when they take on Angelina at home, 4:00 pm. The Lady Eagles had their first home games for the year finally and lost to Weatherford 12-3 and 12-0. The softball team is off this week and picks up a road game at Cisco Junior College next Monday, March 2.

HIGH SCHOOL

Paul Pewitt is in the market for a new AD. Coach Triston Abron is head to Mexia to become their Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. He came to Pewitt from Sulphur Springs and led the Bulls to a 14-2 season and a State Championship appearance in 2019. Coach Kumrow is acting as interim AD until the school board names a replacement.

Here is a first in high school softball. Last weekend Como-Pickton defeated Winnsboro Lady Raiders 12-6 and that is a school first.

Daingerfield’s 16-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Winnsboro Lady Raiders. Winnsboro gained an early lead and didn’t let up. The same can be said for the Lady Devils of Chapel Hill. For the third time this year, they defeated Prairiland. Both Winnsboro and Chapel Hill travel to Prosper again this year for the Regional semi-finals and finals on the road to San Antonio’s state playoffs. Last year Winnsboro lost their Friday night game and Edgewood lost to Chapel Hill during Saturday’s finals. The question to answer for Friday night this year is if Winnsboro meets up with Chapel Hill on Saturday at Prosper.
