Construction of Paris’ Downtown Community Park is near completion after a vision began more than two years ago to transform a parking lot into a haven all could enjoy. A grand opening to celebrate the completion of this community-wide project is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, which is open to the whole community.
Located two blocks east of the downtown square and across from First United Methodist Church, the park features a food truck court, walking path, harmony park, splash pad and seating for all to enjoy. The once unsightly crumbled asphalt lot now provides sixty-one freshly marked concrete parking spaces. Trees, shrubby, grass and lighting enhance the appearance of the park along with a public restroom for the downtown community.
The unveiling of the park will be a community event and all are invited to join the festivities. East Texas Broadcasting with KBUS, KOYN, MIX and KPLT will have a live remote from 10:00 a.m. until noon. Food trucks will begin serving at 11:30 a.m.with a ribbon cutting ceremony taking place at 12:00 noon. Come out and enjoy the harmony park along with a special performance by Cas Haley while kids enjoy the splash pad. Although seating is available, participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or a quilt for the lawn. Festivities will continue until 2:00 p.m.
