Help On The Way For Texas Renters Affected by Pandemic

Texans who’ve fallen behind on their rent during the pandemic can soon get some help. A US Census Survey showed 1.6 million Texans had little or no confidence they’d be able to pay another month’s rent. The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs is now getting ready to launch a $1.3 billion program to provide up to 15 months of rental assistance. The agency says the program will start in two weeks and will only be available to households whose total income is less than 80 percent of the area’s median income. The US Treasury is funding the project and says the money will only go to renters who can show the pandemic has caused financial hardship. The assistance can go towards past and future payments.
