High Court Will Not Hear Hopkins County Capital Murder Case

The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear the case of a Northeast Texas man condemned for murdering his girlfriend in Hopkins County 18 years ago. The decision affirmed a lower court ruling rejecting arguments that 46-year-old Daniel Acker was innocent of strangling 32-year-old Marquetta George of Sulphur Springs. Prosecutors said Acker killed George and dumped her body on a Hopkins County road. Acker had claimed she jumped from his pickup and was run over. An execution date has not been set.
