High School Baseball and Soccer Plus Stars Win

Paris – Yesterday afternoon the 21st ranked Paris Wildcat baseball team won their home opener at Hub Hollis Field, 4-0 over Athens.  Chandler Aynes was 3-3 at the plate.  Jack Davidson drove in a run, while Phil Sikes picked up the win on the mound.  The senior righty threw a complete game 1-hitter and striking out 10. In a district 13-3A rivalry, the Chisum Mustangs host the Prairiland Patriots at Mustang Field.  Both teams enter the game at 1-1 in the district.  First pitch tonight is at 7pm.
Mount Pleasant – The Mt. Pleasant Lady Tiger softball team added a quality district win over the Pine Tree Lady Pirates, 7-6. Blakely Cheek hit the walk-off RBI.  With the win, the Lady Tigers improve to 3-0 in 16-5A and 16-5 overall on the season.  They’ll return to action on Tuesday at Marshall.  The Mt. Vernon Purple Tiger baseball team drops a 13-3A game to rival Winnsboro, 8-0.  The Raiders improve to 2-0.
The Mt. Pleasant baseball team will host Pine Tree tonight at O.L. Colley Field.  First pitch is at 7pm.  The Pittsburg Pirates welcome in Atlanta at 6 in a district 14-4A match up.
Sulphur Springs – Last night the Winnsboro Raider baseball team picks up a quality district win shutting out Mt. Vernon 8-0.  Winnsboro baseball is 12-2 on the season and 2-0 in district 13-3A.  Mt. Vernon drops to 0-3. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats and Lady Cats host the Marshall Mavericks and Lady Mavs tomorrow.  Softball begins at 6pm.  Baseball follows at 7. And the Sulphur Springs Wildcat and Lady Cat soccer teams are in the post season.  The Lady Cats are district runners up and face Royse City.  The Sulphur Springs boys will be up against Lucas Lovejoy.  Game details are still in the works for next Friday.
Last night the Dallas Stars notch a win over the Vancouver Canucks, 4-2.  John Klingberg picked up two points, while Tyler Seguin netted the go ahead goal in the 3rd period. The Stars at 66 points on the season remain outside of a Wildcard spot in the Western Conference.
The Dallas Cowboys see more free agent players depart.  Running back Lance Dunbar signed a one year deal with the LA Rams.  Defensive backs Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne are also on the move.  Carr signed with the Ravens. Claiborne with the Jets.  Meanwhile, the Cowboys resign backup running back Darren McFadden to a one year deal.
And in NCAA March Madness, Top ranked teams take care of business as Villanova beats Mount St. Mary’s, 76-56 and Gonzaga eliminates South Dakota St., 66-46.  In notable games, 11 seed Xavier wins 76-65 over Maryland.  12 seed Middle Tennessee State beats 5 seed Minnesota, 81-72.  4 seeds Butler, Florida, West Virginia and Purdue also advance. Tournament action continues with the round of 64 today.
