High School Baseball Results Plus Stars Advance

Paris – Over the weekend in high school baseball the Paris Wildcats win a wild one in the crosstown showdown 3-1 in 10 innings over North Lamar. The win clinches 3rd place for Paris while North Lamar remains in 2nd in district 15-4A. On Friday the Wildcats fell to Pleasant Grove 10-0, while North Lamar beat Liberty Eylau 5-3. Prairiland was blanked by Hooks Saturday night 7-0. Chisum was also shut out 11-0 at the hands of DeKalb.

The Detroit Lady Eagles finish the regular season on a high note capturing the top seed in district 18-2A with a 6-1 win over Rivercrest. High school playoff softball begins August 29th.

Mount Pleasant – Over the weekend in high school baseball and softball the Mt. Pleasant Tigers crush the Longview Lobos 13-3. The win gives Mt. Pleasant a 5-7 record in district 15-5A. The Lady Tigers finished the regular season with a 21-0 victory over the Lady Lobos and will take on Whitehouse in the bi-district round of the playoffs. Game one is Thursday at 6:30 at LeTourneau University. Games two and game three if necessary will be played Friday. The Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers blank Daingerfield 10-0 as they also prepare for post season play. They’ll be joined by Hughes Springs, Paul Pewitt and Pittsburg.

SS – Over the weekend in high school baseball and softball the Sulphur Springs Wildcats pick up a win over Pine Tree 12-1 in five innings in a make up game. The Wildcats would, however, suffer a shut out loss 6-0 at the hands of the Hallsville Bobscats as well. The Winnsboro Red Raiders edge out Quitman 4-2. The Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers blank Daingerfield 10-0 as they also prepare for post season play. Several area softball teams will begin post season play with the bi-district round on April 29th, including Sulphur Springs and Mt. Vernon.

In Major League Baseball the Texas Rangers suffer a sweep at the hands of the Chicago White Sox, including a 4-1 loss in yesterday’s series finale. The Rangers are now tied for the division lead with Oakland at 10-9. Texas will come home to host the New York Yankees at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Cesar Ramos makes his Ranger debut on the hill. First pitch tonight [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm] is scheduled for 7:05.

The Dallas Mavericks have their backs against the wall as they trail the OKC Thunder three games to one in the opening round of the NBA playoffs. Game five is tonight on the road at 7pm.

The Dallas Stars eliminated the Minnesota Wild, three games to two. The Stars put the final touches on the series wit ha 5-4 win on Sunday afternoon. They’ll face the winner of the Chicago\St. Louis Series.

And former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has been indicted by a Dallas County Grand Jury on a misdemeanor assault charge. Manziel is accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend across the head causing her to temporarily loser her hearing.
