High School Basketball Plus Stars Fall to Red Wings

Paris – The 7-4A All-District team has been released. Paris Wildcat senior quarterback Ja’Karion Brown was selected as district MVP. Running Back Donovan Williams and North Lamar quarterback Sam Cowling are co-offensive MVP. T.D. Williams was selected as defensive MVP. The outstanding lineman award goes to Mitchell Cole and the Paris Wildcat coaches were named staff of the year. Paris landed eight players on the All-District 1st team and nine on the 2nd team. North Lamar had six 1st team selections and nine on the 2nd team.

Red River Valley basketball teams were in action last night with the 20th ranked Paris Wildcats winning their season opener over Kaufman 86-65. Junior Josh Robinson put up 43 points. North Lamar falls at home to Greenville 45-41. Chisum suffers an overtime loss 30-28 to Hooks.

Mount Pleasant – Area basketball teams were in action last night. The 22nd ranked Mt. Pleasant Tigers add another win, this time 76-54 over Idabel, Oklahoma. Senior James Moore led the way with 24 points. The Tigers will be back in action next week against 20th ranked Paris on the road. The Chapel Hill Red Devils fall to White Oak 61-45. The Daingerfield Tigers lose to Pleasant Grove 74-47. The Mt. Vernon Tigers are 2-0 to start the season after a 68-61 win last night over Quinlan Ford. The 7th ranked Lady Purple Tigers defeat Paris 60-39 to improve to 7-2. The Mt. Vernon boys basketball team will be in Dallas at the American Airline Center on Saturday where they’ll take on Union Grove. Tip off from the A-A-C is at 2pm. The Lady Tigers will take part in the Winnsboro Hoop Fest beginning tomorrow.

Sulphur Springs – Area basketball teams were in action last night. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats defeat Denison 77-33. The Wildcats are off to a 4-0 start to the season and will take on Lufkin to begin tournament play this weekend. The Mt. Last night the Dallas Stars fall to the Detroit Redwings on the road 3-1. Esa Lindell scored the lone goal for the Stars. With a 9-9-6 record, Dallas has 24 points on the season for forth place in the Central Division. The Stars are back on the ice tomorrow night in Pittsburgh against the Penguins. Puck drop is set for 6pm.

The Dallas Mavericks play tonight against rival San Antonio at 7:30.

Tomorrow night the Dallas Cowboys will play their 2nd consecutive Thursday night game, this time against the Minnesota Vikings. Dallas has won 10 straight and can lock in a playoff spot with a win. Kickoff tomorrow night [on 101.9 KBUS] is set for 7:30.

And the newest college football polls were unveiled last night. Undefeated Alabama remain at number one, followed by Ohio State at number two. Clemson moves up to number three and Washington is four. Michigan drops to five and Wisconsin is on the bubble at six.
