High School Basketball Results Plus Stars Win Big

Paris – The Associated Press Sports Editors All-State football team was released for class 4A. After totaling 230 tackles on the season Paris Wildcat senior linebacker, Dre McKinney, is an All-State 2nd team selection. Defensive backs TD Williams and Jordan Furtch, along with junior running back, Donovan Williams, were All-State Honorable Mentions.

Last night in high school hoops the Wildcats grab a signature win over Sulphur Springs 67-64, improving to 9-1 on the season. Prairiland defeats Avery 41-31.

Mount Pleasant – Area high school basketball teams were in action last night. Tipping off girls district 13-3A play featured a pair of blowout victories. The 7th ranked Chapel Hill Lady Devils are 1-0 after blasting Como-Pickton 76-12. The 6th ranked Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers are also 1-0, defeating Chisum at home 64-24. The 16th ranked Mt. Vernon boys pick up a non-district win over Mineola 48-36. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers were on the road last night, beating the Longview Lobo’s 48-37.

Sulphur Springs – Area high school basketball teams were in action last night. Tipping off district 16-5A play, the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats beat Greenville handily, 40-17, improving to 12-3 on the season. The Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers also win their district opener, beating Chisum at home 64-24 and the Winnsboro Lady Raiders defeat the Cooper Dogette’s 51-37. The Sulphur Springs boys basketball team took to the road in a non-district contest, falling in a thriller before a packed house to the 18th ranked Paris Wildcats 67-64. Despite the loss, Sulphur Springs maintains a 12-2 record on the season.

Last night in the NHL, the Dallas Stars pour it on the Anaheim Ducks, winning 6-2. All six goals came from six different Stars players with Jamie Benn leading the way with three points. Jordie Benn and Tyler Seguin had two point apiece. The Stars are now 12-13-6 with 30 points on the season.

The Dallas Mavericks are playing significantly better basketball as of late. Tonight they’ll host the Detroit Pistons at the American Airline Center. The Mavs still have the worst record in the NBA, tied with the 76ers at 6-18, but have won two of their last three. Tip off tonight from the A-A-C between the Mavs and Pistons is set for 7:30.

And after an official team count, it was confirmed yesterday that Dallas Cowboys linebacker, Sean Lee, set a franchise record with 22 tackles in Sunday’s loss to the New York Giants. Lee shared the old record of 21 tackles in a single game with Cowboys great, Lee Roy Jordan. Dallas, at 11-2 on the season, will be back on prime time this Sunday against the Tampa Bay Bucs.
