High School Basketball Results Plus Stars Win Big

Paris – Red River Valley basketball teams are back in action today and tomorrow for tournament play. The 18th ranked Paris Wildcats suffer their first loss of the season, 75-70 at the hands of Arkansas High in the New Boston tournament. Yesterday morning the North Lamar Pantherette’s win their opening game at the Edgewood tournament while the North Lamar Panthers fall to Corsicana 39-20 at Wills Point. Prairiland’s boys and girls, along with the Clarksville Lady Tigers continue competing at North Hopkins. The 5th ranked Clarksville boys are at the Greenville Invitational. And the Honey Grove Lady Warriors fall to Dallas Thunder Blue homeschool at Anna.

Mount Pleasant – Area basketball teams are back in action this weekend. The 18th ranked Mt. Pleasant Tigers improve to 6-2 after a 76-66 win over John Tyler at the Union Grove Tournament. The Lady Tigers were scheduled to travel to Gilmer tonight. That game has been moved to Saturday at 3pm. The 7th ranked Mt. Vernon girls defeat McKinney North 64-55 and travel to Emory Rains tonight while the 16th ranked Mt. Vernon boys win their opener at the Harmony Tournament 56-51 over Quitman. Rivercrest defeats Bishop Gorman 62-51 at Big Sandy and the 8th ranked Chapel Hill Lady Devils are at the Frankston tournament. They’re scheduled to face Cayuga today at noon.

Sulphur Springs – Area basketball teams are back in action today and tomorrow for tournament play. The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats route Quitman in the Edgewood tournament 71-9. The Sulphur Springs boys win their opener at the Central Heights Holiday Hoop Fest 77-56 over Newton. They’ll take on Laneville this morning at 10am. The 7th ranked Mt. Vernon girls defeat McKinney North 64-55 and travel to Emory Rains tonight while the 16th ranked Mt. Vernon boys win their opener at the Harmony Tournament 56-51 over Quitman.

Last night the Dallas Stars win big over the Nashville Predators 5-2. Five different Stars scored in the game. Jamie Benn collected three points. Tyler Seguin had two. Dallas is 11-11-6 with 28 points on the season. They’ll travel to Philadelphia to face off with the Flyers tomorrow at noon.

And the Dallas Cowboys are back in prime time as they take on the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football. The Cowboys can clinch the NFC East title with a win. Dallas can clinch a first round bye and home field advantage throughout the post season with a win and losses by Detroit and Seattle. Kickoff on Sunday night [on 101.9 KBUS] is set for 7:30

And in college football awards were dealt out last night. University of Texas Running Back D’Onta Foreman wins the Doak Walker award. OU wide out Dede Westbrook takes home the Belitnikoff award. Alabama’s Jonathan Allen is the Bronko Nagurski winner. Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson wins the Maxwell award for college football’s player of the year and Clemson signal caller Deshaun Watson is the Davey O’Brien recipient for the nations best quarterback.
