Friday night the Pittsburg Pirates made a late rally, scoring with 12 seconds remaining to make it a 3-point game in the 4th round of the playoffs. However, the defending state champion Pleasant Grove Hawks held on for a 44-41 win. Jaylon Jimmerson led the Pirates with 278 total yards, five total touchdowns and two interceptions on defense.
At the New Boston Gunslinger championship Saturday, the Paris Wildcats, fell to District rival Liberty-Eylau 55 to 50. Also on Saturday, the Rivercrest Rebels fell to Broaddus 49 to 33 in the championship of the Gary tournament.

The Dallas Cowboys won their fifth game in a row and took a two-game lead in the NFC East with a 29-23 Overtime win Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. Amari Cooper went off for 217 yards on 10 catches with three touchdowns. He’s the first player in NFL history to have three go-ahead touchdowns in the fourth quarter or overtime. The Cowboys will play Indianapolis next Sunday.
Texas A&M University-Commerce has hired David Bailiff as its 20th head football coach, as announced Sunday by University President Dr. Mark Rudin and director of athletics Tim McMurray. Coach Bailiff was the head coach at Texas State University from 2004-06 and at Rice University from 2007-17. The Lions’ 2019 season will be Bailiff’s 15th season as a collegiate head coach.

Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Kyler Murray apologized Sunday morning after anti-gay tweets he made in 2011-12 surfaced hours after he won the Heisman Trophy. The tweets, from when Murray was 14 and 15 years old, were deleted from his account late Saturday night. Murray beat out fellow quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa of Alabama and Dwayne Haskins of Ohio State to become the second straight quarterback from Oklahoma to win college football’s most prestigious award.
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers nearly came up six throws short of the NFL record for the most consecutive pass attempts without an interception. But after Atlanta Falcons linebacker Deion Jones dropped a ball that practically hit him between the numbers on his jersey, Rodgers successfully threw on. On his third pass attempt of the second half, he tied Tom Brady’s NFL record with his 358th straight pass without an interception. On his next throw, he broke it.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett has made multiple attempts this season to get former Dallas tight end Jason Witten to come out of retirement and help the Cowboys in their postseason push. Witten has resisted those overtures, some of which came in recent weeks, as tempting as it might have been to help his former team, sources said.
