Paris – It’s the most anticipated high school sporting event in the Red River Valley. It’s Crosstown Showdown week. The Paris Wildcats host the North Lamar Panthers at Wildcat Stadium on Friday night. Paris looks to keep their district title hopes alive behind running back Donovan Williams and defensive end Vershaud Richardson while Jay Walters and Jeremiah Guenther look to build on an explosive offensive performance. The Wildcat broadcast will be carried on 101.9 KBUS while the call for the Panthers can be heard on MIX 107.7.

Mount Pleasant – Chapel Hill Cross Country runner, Kaylyn Tompkins ran at the state meet this past Saturday in Round Rock. Tompkins, a Junior, competing at the Class 3A level, was in the top 10, finishing in 6th-place in a pack of 148 runners. The Saltillo men finished second as a team in class A. In the Texas High School Volleyball playoffs, the Mt Vernon Lady Tigers watch their season end in four sets at the hands of a suddenly red-hot New Diana team, 23-25, 25-16, 24-26 and 27-29. The Lady Tigers are eliminated in the Regional Quarterfinal round and were district champions out of district 13-3A.

Sulphur Springs – The Miller Grove men’s and women’s Cross Country teams made a historic showing at this weekend’s state meet. The Miller Grove Hornets bring home a state title while Saltillo finishes second and Sulphur Bluff fourth. The Miller Grove girls fared well themselves finishing in 2nd place as a team. The Dallas Stars fall to the Winnipeg Jets for the second time in a week, 4-1. The lone Stars goal came on a power play when Jamie Benn found the back of the net in the 2nd period. The Stars remain at 16 points on the season and will be back on the ice Friday night against the Islanders.

The Dallas Mavericks travel to the nations capital tonight to tip off with John Wall and the Washington Wizards. The Mavs currently sport the NBA’s worst record at 1-10. Tip-off is at 6:00 pm.

The Texas Rangers front office made several announcements yesterday regarding coaches and players. Texas announced Don Wakamatsu is taking over as bench coach. Steve Buechele will transition to 1st base coach. Former Mets pitching coach, Dan Warthen, becomes the Rangers pitching assistant. Former Rangers pitcher, Colby Lewis, takes a role as special assistant to the GM, while the club also picks up the 2018 option for Martin Perez. The team will not exercise the team options for Mike Napoli or Tony Barnette.
