High School Football Kicks Off Tonight In Today’s Sports Update

The High School football season gets underway tonight. In a game that can be heard on KLAKE 97.7, the Pittsburg Pirates will travel to Jefferson. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm. On STAR Country 96.9, Hughes Springs heads to Lufkin to face Hamshire-Fannett. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm. Tomorrow night, Mt Pleasant travels to Wylie East at 7:30 pm on KLAKE 97.7, Mt Vernon is on the road at Bonham on STAR Country 96.9 at 7:30 pm, Sulphur Springs will host Frisco Wakeland on STAR 95.9. Also on Friday, Paul Pewitt will host New Boston, Daingerfield will be at home against Gunter, Gilmer will host Atlanta, Paris is at Pleasant Grove on 101.9 KBUS, North Lamar visits Pottsboro on MIX 107.7 and Rivercrest will be at Chisum.

There’s a bunch of College Football slated for tonight. The biggest game of the night will feature No. 1 Clemson hosting Georgia Tech at 7:00 pm. No. 12 Texas A&M is also in action as they host Texas State at 7:30 pm.

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones like to say that deadlines make deals, but when it comes to Ezekiel Elliott, he does not see the approaching Sept. 8 regular-season opener as a deadline. Jones went so far as to see the positive of Elliott missing games, at least early in the season. He said if Elliott misses games early, that would mean a fresher Zeke at playoff time. The Cowboys face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers tonight in their final pre-season game.

Suspended Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt will not be permitted inside the team’s facility while serving his eight-game ban for physical altercations. League spokesman Brian McCarthy said Hunt, who signed with Cleveland in March after being released by Kansas City in December, can’t be at the facility starting at 4:00 pm Saturday. That’s when teams are required to submit 53-man rosters.

Ariel Jurado pitched six innings of two-hit ball to earn his second victory since June, and Delino DeShields reached over the center-field fence to make a spectacular homer-stealing catch in the Texas Rangers’ 3-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. The rangers are back at home tonight starting a weekend series with Seattle. First pitch at 7:05 pm.
