High School Football Playoffs Plus Mavs Get Road Win In Today’s Sports

In this week’s Harris rankings, the Paris Wildcats are ranked No. 7 as they get set to play Dallas Carter on Friday night. That game will be played in Denison at 7:30 and will be broadcast on 101.9 KBUS.

The Cooper Bulldogs will begin their playoffs on Mix 107.7 Friday when they play Winona in Mt Pleasant. That game starts at 7:30 as well.

In Six-Man Football playoffs this week, Fannindel will play Gordon Friday at 7:00 pm at Maypearl.

Mt Vernon vs Tatum at Gilmer is Thursday 7:00 pm on KLAKE 97.7, Pittsburg vs Dallas Roosevelt-Nevada Community is at Greenville Thursday 7:00 pm on STAR 96.9, Hughes Springs vs Gladewater plays at Hallsville Friday 7:30 pm on STAR 96.9, Paul Pewitt vs Newton at Carthage is Friday at 7:30 pm on KLAKE 97.7 and Daingerfield vs Anderson-Shiro at Athens on Thursday 7:30 pm.

Heading into the playoffs, The Texas A&M University-Commerce football team is ranked No. 15 in this week’s 2018 American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ Poll.

The Lions closed out the regular season with a 9–2 overall record and 7–1 Lone Star Conference mark after Saturday’s 41–13 victory over Angelo State.

Last night in the hardwood the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Chicago Bulls 103–98. Harrison Barnes led the way as he scored 23 points for Dallas. DeAndre Jordan finished with 16 rebounds. Dallas is back home Wednesday when they face the Utah Jazz.

The Dallas Stars fell to Columbus 2–1 last night at home. Alexander Radulov scored the only goal of the game for Dallas. Next game for Dallas will be Friday when they host the Boston Bruins.

The first week of high school basketball starts tonight,  first is Mount Pleasant hosting Canton and MP Chapel Hill is at Bullard.

In Monday night football, in the battle of one-win teams, Embattled New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning led the game-winning touchdown drive in a 27-23 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes skipped his postgame news conference on Sunday after his girlfriend’s stepfather died while at the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Arizona Cardinals at Arrowhead Stadium. Mahomes’ girlfriend, Brittany Matthews, reported on her Instagram account that her stepfather had died.

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton confirmed he smashed a fire alarm inside his team’s locker room before Sunday’s victory at Cincinnati’s Paul Brown Stadium, saying, “I just needed the noise to stop.” Fire alarms had been going off throughout the stadium for an estimated 10 minutes in the hours leading up to the game.

Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. was named National League Rookie of the Year on Monday. He received 27 first-place votes and three seconds for 144 points. Fellow international phenom Juan Soto of the Washington Nationals got two firsts and 89 points, and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler was next with one first and 28 points.

Shohei Ohtani became the fourth Japanese-born player to win Rookie of the Year, as the Los Angeles Angels’ two-way sensation beat New York Yankees duo Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres to the American League award. Ohtani earned 25 of 30 first-place votes to run away with the award. The other five votes went to Andujar, who finished as runner-up.
