High School Football Plus Mavs Throttle Pistons

The Texas High School Football State Championships kicked off yesterday and will continue through the weekend. In Class A Six-Man Football Borden County defeats Jonesboro, 60-22 for the Division I title, followed by Strawn winning the Division II championship over Balmorhea 78-42. In Class 2A Division I, Mart is crowned over Refugio, 34-21. Today at 11:00 am the Class 2A Division II title game will be played between Tenaha and Muenster followed by the Class 3A Division I game between Brock and Rockdale at 3:00 pm. The nightcap game tonight will feature the Gunter Tigers as they kick off against Newton at 7:00 for the Class 3A Division II title.
Earlier this week Paris Wildcat running back, Donovan Williams committed to Sam Houston State University. Williams played four years at the varsity level and finished his high school career with more than 45 rushing touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Paris Wildcat basketball team will be on the floor this afternoon to take on the Mt Pleasant Tigers. Tip-off is at 4:00 pm.
The Mt Pleasant Tiger basketball team will be in action this afternoon when they hit the road to face the Paris Wildcats. The two teams met at the beginning of the month with the Tigers taking a 57-46 victory. They’ll look to repeat the effort today with tip-off at 4:00 pm.
Last night the Dallas Mavericks dominate the middle quarters to beat the Detroit Pistons, 110-93. The Mavs outscored the Pistons 43-28 in the 2nd quarter and 24-13 in the 3rd. Harrison Barnes led the way with 25 points as the Mavs improve to 9-23 on the season. Rookie Dennis Smith Jr. was solid with 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Dallas will be on the road tomorrow night as they take on the Miami Heat tipping off at 7:00 pm.
The Dallas Cowboys look to keep their playoff hopes alive on Sunday afternoon against the Seattle Seahawks. The Cowboys are 8-6 and will need help in order to make the post-season. Dallas needs the Detroit Lions to lose one game while needing either New Orleans, Carolina or Atlanta to drop their final two games of the season and, of course, Dallas will need to win out. Kickoff on Sunday afternoon between the Cowboys and Seahawks is at noon.
And in college football, Louisiana Tech dismantles SMU in the DXL Frisco Bowl, 51-10. Tonight’s bowl game will feature Florida International taking on Temple. Tomorrow Alabama-Birmingham will face Ohio and Central Michigan plays Wyoming.
