High School Football Plus Stars Win Opener

Paris – Red River Valley football teams return to action tonight for district play. The Paris Wildcats hit the road to take on the Princeton Panthers on 101.9 KBUS. The North Lamar Panthers will travel to Texarkana to take on a struggling Liberty Eylau Leopard team on MIX 107.7. Our KOYN Game of the Week will feature the unbeaten Rivercrest Rebels as they take on the Linden Kildare Tigers at The Swamp. In other area games, the Prairiland Patriots travel to face Leonard. The Cooper Bulldogs hit the road to take on undefeated Gunter. The Honey Grove Warriors are at Wolfe City and the Detroit Eagles go to Maud. All games kickoff at 7:30.

Mount Pleasant – Area high school football teams return to the field tonight for district play. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers look to get back on track when they welcome in rival Texas High to Sam Parker Field. The 3-0 Mt. Vernon Tigers continue the hunt for a district title when they travel to take on state power Mineola. The Pittsburg Pirates won their district opener and will host Spring Hill this evening. The Daingerfield Tigers are on the path to a district championship. They’ll host Hooks. The Paul Pewitt Brahmas look to keep pace in the playoff race at home against DeKalb and the Gilmer Buckeyes are in a match tonight at home against the Gladewater Bears.

Sulphur Springs – Area high school football teams return to the field tonight for district play. The 3-0 Mt. Vernon Tigers continue the hunt for a district title when they travel to take on state power Mineola. The Cooper Bulldogs are on the right path to the post season with a 2-0 district record. They’ll square off on the road against Gunter. The Cumby Trojans look to bounce back when they visit Dallas Gateway Academy. The Winnsboro Red Raiders host Grand Saline. Emory Rains wants to pick up their first district win at home against Ferris and the Greenville Lions host the Marshall Mavericks. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats and Commerce Tigers have the week off.

Last night in the NHL, the Dallas Stars begin the season with a 4-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks. The four goals came from four different Stars players, Stephen Johns, Lauri Korpikoski, Antoine Roussel, and Adam Cracknell. It’s the first two points of the season for the defending Central Division Champions. Dallas will be back on the ice tomorrow night when they travel to face Colorado. Puck drop Saturday is at 8pm.

The red hot Dallas Cowboys hope to get Wide Receiver, Dez Bryant, back from a knee injury. Bryant practiced on Wednesday for the first time in two weeks, but is considered a game time decision. On Sunday afternoon the Cowboys face their toughest test of the season when they travel to historic Lambeau Field to face Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers [on 101.9 KBUS]. Kickoff Sunday is at 3:25.
