Paris – Area high school football teams were in action over the extended weekend. On Friday night the Chisum Mustangs shut out Honey Grove 35-0. North Lamar routed Mt. Pleasant 39-14. The Paris Wildcats slip past Pleasant Grove 23-22. Pairiland defeats Queen City 14-7. Detroit beats Como-Pickton 28-14. The Cooper Bulldogs fall to Emory Rains 20-14. Clarksville loses to Linden Kildare 59-20.

Mount Pleasant – Area high school football teams were in action over the extended weekend. On Friday night the Pittsburg Pirates throttle Pine Tree 51-26. The Gilmer Buckeyes crush Center 70-21. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers falls to North Lamar 39-14. Daingerfield gets beat by Atlanta 41-6. Paul Pewitt loses to Jefferson 58-33. And Mt. Vernon falls to Brook Hill 27-14.

Sulphur Springs – Area high school football teams were in action over the extended weekend. On Friday night the Sulphur Springs Wildcats fall to Seminole Ridge 49-10 in Orlando, Florida. Winnsboro wins over Quinlan Ford 28-12. Greenville drops their game to Crandall 29-7. Rains defeats Cooper 20-14. Commerce loses to Leonard 48-14. Brook Hill beats Mt. Vernon 27-14. And Detroit wins over Como-Pickton 28-14.

Yesterday afternoon the Texas Rangers were rocked by the Seattle Mariners 14-6. Rougned Odor hit his team leading 30th home run of the season in the Ranger defeat. Texas, with an 82-56 record, leads the AL West by 8.5 games over the Houston Astros. The Rangers and Mariners play game two of four tonight in Seattle. The Rangers hand the ball to Martin Perez. First pitch [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm] is set for 9:10pm.

It was a busy weekend for the Dallas Cowboys. First the team cut the roster down to the final 53 players making the team. Dallas has elected to keep quarterback Tony Romo on the active roster for the time being in case Romo is able to return from a back injury earlier than initially expected. On Sunday the Cowboys signed free agent quarterback, Mark Sanchez, to be the backup for Dak Prescott when the season begins on Sunday against the New York Giants.

And in the fourth round of the U.S. Open, 2nd ranked Andy Murray advances past Grigor Dimitrov, while 3rd ranked Stan Wawrinka beats Illya Marchenko. On the women’s side, top ranked Serena Williams eliminates Yaroslava Shvedova. Number 6 Venus Williams was defeated by Karolina Pliskova.
