High School Hoops in Today’s Local Sports

Paris – The High school basketball regional tournaments took place over the weekend.  At the Field House at Texas A&M Commerce the 5th ranked Paris Wildcats were unable to hold on to a 12 point lead, falling to Dallas Lincoln 73-66.  Paris finishes their season with a 33-3 record on the season.  Meanwhile, North Lamar saw their season end at the hands of Triple A Academy 73-56.  The Panthers went 24-14 on the season. Lincoln would go on to beat Triple A on Saturday, advancing to the State tournament.  And in class 2A region 2 the 2nd ranked Clarksville Tigers were defeated 59-48 against number 5 Muenster, who also won on Saturday against Electra to advance to the state tournament.

Mount Pleasant – The High School basketball regional tournaments took place over the weekend.  The 25th ranked Daingerfield Tigers saw their season come to an end at the hands of Waxahachie Life 54-40.  Daingerfield finishes the basketball season with an overall record of 21-6.  Waxahachie Life would later fall to Van Alstyne on Saturday afternoon.

Six State Champions were crowned over the weekend in girls high school hoops.  In Class 6A Duncanville dominated Dekaney 76-42 to complete a 39-0 season.  In Class 5A Canyon defeated Frisco Liberty 41-34.  In Class 4A the Argyle Lady Eagles beat La Vega out of Waco 53-43.  The Class 3A champion is Wall after winning a defensive battle 24-21 over Brock.  In 2A Weimar beats Panhandle 52-47.  And in 1A Lipan wins over Nazareth 54-43.

Sulphur Springs – The High school basketball regional tournaments took place over the weekend.  The 16th ranked Campbell Indians saw their season come to an end at the hands of Avinger 42-38.

Yesterday in the NHL the Dallas Stars defeat the Ottawa Senators 2-1.  Jason Spezza and Antoine Roussel netted the goals for Dallas.  With the win the Stars have 87 points on the season, tied with Chicago at the top of the Western Conference.   The Stars return to action tomorrow night against Montreal. Puck drop is at 6:30.

Last night in the NBA The Dallas Mavericks fall to the Denver Nuggets 116-114 in overtime.  The loss spoils a 30 point performance by big man Dirk Nowitzki.  The Mavs have now dropped to 33-30 on the season and sit in 6th place in the West. Dallas will be back on the court tonight at the AAC against the LA Clippers. Tip off is at 7:30.

Texas Rangers drop their first Cactus league game of the spring yesterday to the Seattle Mariners 7-3.  Despite the loss, youngster Nomar Mazara stayed hot………………….The Rangers play San Francisco today with a 2:05 first pitch.
