High School Hoops Plus Clemson Takes Down ‘Bama for Title

Paris – Last night the 17th ranked Paris Wildcat basketball team took down Melissa 96-72. Junior Josh Robinson dropped in 34 points while senior Jalon Pipkins had 30. Paris begins district play this Saturday evening in the Cross Town Showdown against North Lamar. The Panthers are in action, wrapping up the pre-district tonight against Princeton. The Prairiland Patriots are at home against Como-Pickton, while Chisum is on the road at Winnsboro. Tonight’s games tip off at 7:30.

MP – Tonight area basketball teams continue their march to the post season. In a top 15 match up, the 7th ranked Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers will take on number 14 Chapel Hill with the winner sitting at the top of the district standings. The Chapel Hill boys and 19th ranked Mt. Vernon Tigers play tonight for an early lead in district play. The girls tip off in Mt. Pleasant at 6pm. The boys will follow.

The Mt. Pleasant Tigers look to stay perfect in 16-5A when they host the Texas High Tigers at Willie Williams Gym. The Lady Tigers will be on the road against the Texas high girls.

Sulphur Springs – The Sulphur Springs Wildcat soccer team won their season opener over the weekend 4-1 over Lakeview Centennial at the Forney Tournament. In the first win for head coach Nicky Wiggins, Angel Tavera lead the Wildcats with a goal and two assists. The remainder of the tournament was cancelled due to weather.

A big night from Harrison Barnes and Dirk Nowitzki couldn’t save the Mavs as they fall to Minnesota 101-92. Barnes had 30, while Dirk had 24 with five rebounds and four assists. Dallas drops to a Western Conference worst, 11-27.

Last night in the NCAA National Championship the 2nd ranked Clemson Tigers get revenge on number 1 Alabama 35-31. Clemson’s senior quarterback, Deshaun Watson threw for 420 yards and four total touchdowns to cap off his decorated career with the Tigers. Both Clemson and ‘Bama finish their season at 14-1.

Former Dallas Cowboy and Texas A&M linebacker, Dat Nguyen, has been inducted to the college football hall of fame. The All-American and Big 12 Defensive Player of the year in 1998 joins San Diego State running back, Marshall Faulk, Tennessee Quarterback Peyton Manning, and New Mexico safety Brian Urlacher as 2017 inductees.
