High School Hoops Plus Cowboys Prepare For Season Finale

High school basketball teams began tournament play yesterday and will continue through the weekend.
Paris – The Paris Wildcats notch a pair of wins to advance in the Paris Holiday Tournament, including a 57-33 victory over the Clarksville Tigers. North Lamar takes down New Boston 54-25, before falling to Hot Springs, Arkansas, 49-45. Day two will be played today with the Championship round set for tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Prairiland Patriots notch a dramatic win over Redwater, 56-55.
Mount Pleasant – The Mt Pleasant Tigers win a close game and a blowout at The Paris Holiday Tournament, defeating Commerce 55-53 before handling Lufkin Hudson, 107-66. The Tigers advance to the championship bracket as they look to defend their tournament title. The Mt Vernon Tigers are in the semi-finals of the Spring Hill Tournament. They’ll be up against the host team this afternoon at 1:00 pm for a chance to advance to the final round. The Mt Vernon Lady Tigers continue to play at the Aggieland Invitational while the Chapel Hill Lady Devils march on at UT-Tyler. Tonight the Chapel Hill boys play a non-district contest against Campbell.
Sulphur Springs – The Sulphur Springs Wildcats pick up a pair of wins at the Allen Tournament yesterday, 68-44 over John Paul High School and a signature win for the season over seventh-ranked El Paso Burgess in Class 5A, 56-51. Godsgift Ezedinma lead Sulphur Springs with 15 points as the Wildcats prepare for another challenge today against 15th ranked Cibolo Steele out of class 6A. Tip-off is at 11:45 am. The Mt Vernon Tigers are breezing through the Spring Hill Tournament as they find themselves in the Semi-Finals today. They’ll take on the host team for a chance at the tournament title. Tip-off is at 1:00 pm.
The Dallas Cowboys play their final game of the 2017 season on Sunday afternoon taking on the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite nothing to gain from the contest Cowboys coach, Jason Garrett, says healthy players will play rather than give way to backups. A win would put Dallas at 9-7. A loss would give the Cowboys their forth 8-8 season in seven seasons under Garrett. Kickoff on Sunday between the Cowboys and Eagles is set for noon.
And in College Football bowl games the 15th ranked TCU Horn Frogs take down 13th ranked Stanford, 39-37. Michigan State crushes Washington State, 42-17. Oklahoma State beats Virginia Tech, 30-21, while Navy pounds Virginia, 49-7. Today the Texas A&M Aggies are up against Wake Forest at noon, while tonight the fifth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes clash with No. 8 USC in the Cotton Bowl at 7:30.
And on New Year’s Day, the College Football Playoffs begin with Heisman winner, Baker Mayfield, and the second-ranked Oklahoma Sooners taking on third-ranked Georgia at 4:00 pm, followed by a rematch of the last two national title games between top-ranked Clemson and the fourth-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide at 7:45.
