High School Hoops Plus Mavs Get Rare Win

Paris – Yesterday afternoon at the American Airline Center in Dallas, the North Lamar Panthers won for the third time in four games, beating Melissa at the buzzer 49-48. Senior guard Menderiz Grey hit the game winner. The Pantherette’s fall to Melissa 42-40 in overtime. In action tonight, the 18th ranked Paris Wildcats host Sulphur Springs, while the 5th ranked Clarksville Tigers host Atlanta. Chisum welcomes in Tom Bean. The Lady Mustangs take on 6th ranked Mt. Vernon to begin district 13-3A play. The Prairiland Patriots travel to Avery while the Lady Patriots begin 13-3A competition against 23rd ranked Winnsboro.

Mount Pleasant – Area basketball teams are back in action tonight. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers are on the road this evening at Longview to take on the Lobos. The game will be played at Forest Park Middle School with tip off set for 7:30. The Rivercrest will host Como-Pickton District play begins in 13-3A with the 7th ranked Chapel Hill Lady Devils hosting Como-Pickton at 6pm and the 6th ranked Mt. Vernon girls open up at home against the Chisum Lady Mustangs.

Sulphur Springs – Area basketball teams are back in action tonight. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats look to stay hot when they visit the 18th ranked Paris Wildcats out of class 4A. Sulphur Springs enters the contest with a 9-1 record while the Wildcats are 8-1. Tip off tonight is at 7:30. The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats begin district play as they hit the road to face Greenville at 7:30 as well. The 6th ranked Mt. Vernon girls open up 13-3A play at home against the Chisum Lady Mustangs, while the 23rd ranked Winnsboro Lady Raiders welcome in the Cooper Doggette’s.

Last night the Dallas Mavericks pick up a win over the Denver Nuggets 112-92. Wesley Matthews continues to play well, leading the Mavs with 25 points Daron Williams had 17 with eight assists. The Mavs improve to 6-18 and have won two of three. They’ll take on the Pistons tomorrow at home at the A-A-C 7:30.

Tonight the Dallas Stars look to end a two game skid as they begin a five game home stand. They’ll host the Anaheim Ducks at the American Airline Center. The Stars are sixth in the Central Division Standings with 28 points. Puck drop tonight at the A-A-C is set for 7:30.

And for the forth time in his career, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo win the Ballon d’Or, golden ball, for football’s top individual honor. It’s been an amazing year for the Portuguese superstar, winning the Champions League title with Madrid and the Euro’s with Portugal. Ronaldo beat out Barcelona’s Lionel Messi for the award.
