High School Hoops Plus Mavs NBA’s Worst at 4-17

Paris – Red River Valley basketball teams are back in action today as they begin tournament play. The 18th ranked Paris Wildcats are at the New Boston tournament this evening. The North Lamar Panthers go to Wills Point while the Pantherette’s are at Edgewood. Prairiland’s boys and girls, along with the Clarksville Lady Tigers head to North Hopkins. The 5th ranked Clarksville boys are at the Greenville Invitational. And the Honey Grove Lady Warriors go to Anna.

Mount Pleasant – Area basketball teams are back in action this weekend. The 18th ranked Mt. Pleasant Tigers look for their sixth win of the season as they enter the Union Grove Tournament. Their first match up will be against John Tyler at 4:30. The Lady Tigers were scheduled to travel to Gilmer. That game has been moved to Saturday at 3pm. The 8th ranked Chapel Hill Lady Devils are at the Frankston tournament. They’re scheduled to face Cayuga tomorrow at noon. The 7th ranked Mt. Vernon girls travel to McKinney North while the 16th ranked Mt. Vernon boys will be in action at the Harmony Tournament.

Sulphur Springs – Area basketball teams are back in action today as they begin tournament play. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats will be headed to Nacogdoches for the Central Heights Holiday Hoop Fest, while the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats attend the Edgewood tournament. The 7th ranked Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers travel to McKinney North while the 16th ranked Mt. Vernon boys will be in action at the Harmony Tournament. The 20th ranked Commerce Tigers will be at the Anna\Melissa tournament. Champions will be crowned Saturday evening.

Last night the Dallas Mavericks lose…again. This time 120-89 to the Sacramento Kings. Deron Williams had 20 points with six assists to lead the Mavs, who continue to own the NBA’s worst record at 4-17. Dallas is back home tomorrow at the American Airline Center against the Indiana Pacers. Tip off Friday is at 7:30.

It’s been an action packed Winter Meetings in Major League Baseball. Now former Texas Ranger, Ian Desmond, signed a five year, 70 million dollar contract to join the Colorado Rockies. The Rangers have been connected to names via trade or free agency such as sluggers Edwin Encarnacion Jay Bruce, Andrew McCutchen, and Billy Hamilton. As well as pitchers Tyson Ross, Dan Straily, and reliever Justin Wilson.

And the Dallas Cowboys are back in prime time as they take on the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football. The Cowboys have won 11 in a row and can clinch the NFC East title with a win. Dallas can clinch a first round bye and home field advantage throughout the post season with a win and losses by Detroit and Seattle. Kickoff on Sunday night [on 101.9 KBUS] is set for 7:30.
