Paris – North Lamar Panther athletic director and head football coach will be resigning effective Friday to pursue a new opportunity………….. Billings will be departing North Lamar for Southern Miss University after going 11-9 in two seasons with the Panthers.
The bi-district round of the girls high school basketball playoffs wrapped up last night. The Cooper Dogette’s win a thriller over Queen City 61-58 to advance to the area round. They’ll take on 8th ranked Alba Golden. The game is scheduled to be played this Friday night at 6pm at Mt. Pleasant High school. The North Lamar Panthers beat Pittsburg last night 72-58 and finish district in a tie for 2nd place with Pleasant Grove. Tie breaker is still to be determined. The 5th ranked Paris Wildcats beat Atlanta on the road 71-26. Paris will take on Spring Hill in the opening round of the playoffs on Tuesday.
Mount Pleasant – Last night in the bi-district round of the girls high school playoff basketball the 17th ranked Mt Vernon girls will be up against Harmony. and 16th ranked Chapel Hill plays Whitewright.
The boys played their district finale’s last night with several area teams headed to the playoffs. Mt. Pleasant falls to Texas High on the road.They’ll take on Lufkin in the bi-district round. The Chapel Hill Red Devils take down Linden Kildare 80-36. And Mt. Vernon heads to post season on a high note beating Queen City 75-53. the boys bi-district round is schedule from Monday, February 22nd to Tuesday the 23rd.
Sulphur Springs – Last night in the bi district round of girls high school playoff basketball the Sulphur springs Lady Cats win over Lindale 58-52 in overtime to move on. They’ll take on Mansfield Summit nex. The Cooper Dogette’s win a thriller over Queen City 61-58 to advance to the area round. They’ll take on 8th ranked Alba Golden. The game is scheduled to be played this Friday night at 6pm at Mt. Pleasant High school. Mt Vernon girls will be up against Harmony.

Last night in the NHL the Dallas Stars pick up a point, but fall 2-1 in overtime to St. Louis. With the overtime loss the Stars have a western conference best 80 points on the season. Dallas is back on the ice tomorrow against Arizona at 8pm.
Pitchers and Catchers report for the Texas Rangers tomorrow. Texas finished as American League West Champions at 88-74. Full workouts begin next week.
