High School Playoffs In Sight In Thursday’s Local Sports

Paris – Local high school girls basketball teams are learning their playoff fate following Tuesday night’s regular season finale. In the Bi-district round, district champion Clarksville Lady Tigers will face 4th seeded Hawkins on Monday at 8pm at Hughes Springs high school. Prior to the Clarksville girls game, the Rivercrest Lady Rebels are up against McLeod at 6pm at Hughes Springs. The Detroit Lady Eagles play at Mt. Pleasant on Monday against 15th ranked Union Grove. Tip off is at 8pm. Honey Grove still awaits their first round opponent, as do the North Lamar Pantherette’s. Meanwhile, on Friday night the Cooper Dogette’s take on district rival New Boston to decide the number 2 seed. The game will be played at Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill at 7:30.

Mount Pleasant – Local teams finished up the regular season in girls high school basketball. On Tuesday night the 18th ranked Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers defeated Daingerfield 86-17. The 17th ranked Chapel Hill Lady Devils defeated Hughes Springs 66-28, wrapping up an 11-1 district season. The 7th ranked Winnsboro Lady Raiders defeated Quitman 75-33 to finish with a 13-1 district record. However, district rival alba golden also has a 13-1 record. The two teams will clash on Saturday evening to decide the top seed in the post season. The game will be played at The Herrington Patriot Center at UT Tyler. Tip off is at 5pm.

The 7th ranked Winnsboro Lady Raiders defeated Quitman 75-33 to finish with a 13-1 district record. However, district rival alba golden also has a 13-1 record. The two teams will clash on Saturday evening to decide the top seed in the post season. The game will be played at The Herrington Patriot Center at UT Tyler. Tip off is at 5pm. On Tuesday night the 18th ranked Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers defeated Daingerfield 86-17 and tomorrow night the Mt. Vernon boys will host Hughes Springs. The Purple Tigers are 7-3 in district play.

Tonight the Dallas Stars travel to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Blackhawks in a battle of 1 vs 2 in the west. With 76 points on the season, Chicago leads the conference, but Dallas isn’t far behind with 73 points and have won four of their last five. However, that one loss in their stretch came against the Blackhawks 5-1 on Saturday. Puck drop tonight is set for 7:30.

The Texas Rangers avoid player arbitration across the board yesterday when they signed 1st baseman Mitch Moreland to a one year contract with 5.7 million dollars, nearly doubling the 2.9 million he made in 2015. Last season, Moreland hit .278 with 23 home runs and 85 RBIs. Moreland has been with the organization since 2010.
