High School Results Plus Desmon Fielder Shine in Rangers Win

Paris – Today kicks off one of the biggest area high school sporting events of the year when Paris High School hosts the annual Deon Minor Relay’s. Participating teams include Paris, North Lamar, Sulphur Springs, Mt. Pleasant, Greenville, Denison, Gilmer, Commerce, Emory Rains and Idabel. Field events begin at 3:30 and running at 5pm.

The Paris Wildcat baseball team, meanwhile, will begin district play on the road against the Liberty Eylau Leopards. The North Lamar Panthers and Pantherettes will be on the diamond at Atlanta. Game times are set for 6pm. And the Prairiland Patriots travel to Hooks.

MP – Tonight the playoff journey begins for the Mt. Pleasant Tigers soccer team. They’ll travel to Longview tonight to play the John Tyler Lions in the bi- district round. Game time is at 7pm. The Mt. Pleasant Tiger and Lady Tiger track team will travel to Paris High School to participate in the Deon Minor relays. Field events begin at 3:30 and running at 5pm.

In high school baseball and softball the Chapel Hill Red Devils and Lady Devils host Daingerfield. The action begins with softball at 5:30, followed by the baseball game at 7. And the Pittsburg Pirates open district play at home against Pleasant Grove at 5pm.

SS – Track and Field continues with pre-district meets. Tomorrow evening the Sulphur Springs Wildcats and Lady Cats will travel to Paris High School to participate in the Deon Minor Relays. In high school baseball and softball the Sulphur Springs Wildcats will be on the road to take on the Hallsville Bobcats, while the Lady Cats host the Lady Bobcats. Softball begins at 6pm. First pitch to the baseball game is at 7.

Last night in the NBA the Dallas Mavericks fall to the Portland Trail Blazers 109-103. The loss puts the Mavs below .500 for the first time since they 3-4 on November 10th. At 35-36 Dallas is tied with the Utah Jazz for the 7 seed in the west. Next up the Mavs will travel to Golden State tomorrow where the Warriors are 33-0 at home on the season and 64-7 overall.

The Texas Rangers picked up a win in Cactus League play 5-0 over the Chicago Cubs. Prince Fielder and Ian Desmond each had an RBI while Derek Hollands picked five scoreless innings, giving up four hits, one walk and striking out seven. The Rangers play a double header today. Chi Chi Gonzalez takes the mound against Cincinnati at 3:05. AJ Griffin will get the call to the hill against Oakland at 9:05.

And NCAA tournament play picks back up today with the sweet 16 round. A pair of one seeds and two seeds will be in action starting with 2 seed Villanova vs 3 Miami at 6:10. 2 seed Oklahoma plays against 3 seed Texas A&M at 6:37. Top seed Kansas plays 5 seed Maryland at 8:40 and 1 seed Oregon plays 4 seed Duke at 9:07.
