High School Results Plus Rangers Finish Sweep of Astros

Paris – 11-4A All-District soccer selections were recently released. Paris senior Justin Mitchell was selected as the district’s Co-MVP. Paris Junior Colin Harris is the Offensive MVP. Fellow Paris Junior Cade Blackmon is keeper of the year and Jeremy Beshirs was named coach of the year. And the newcomer of the year award goes to North Lamar Panther Freshman Zach Figueroa.

Area teams will be looking to get back on the field in high school baseball and softball this weekend. Tonight the Prairiland Patriots are set to play one of two weekend games when they host Redwater, followed by a Saturday contest against Hooks. Both games are scheduled for 7:30. On MIX 107.7 the North Lamar Panthers host the Liberty Eylau Leopards beginning at 6:30. The Paris Wildcats will be in Texarkana to face the Pleasant Grove Hawks at 6. Paris and North Lamar are anticipating making up the Crosstown Showdown on Saturday.

Mount Pleasant – Area teams will be looking to get back on the field in high school baseball and softball. The Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers are scheduled to be in Longview tonight to make up Tuesday’s contest against Pine Tree. First pitch this evening is at 6pm. Mt. Pleasant baseball and softball will continue district 15-5A play tomorrow as well against Longview. The Chapel Hill Red Devils and Lady Devils will host the Hughes Springs Mustangs and Lady Mustangs on Friday. Chapel Hill softball can clinch a playoff spot with a victory tonight. The Pittsburg Pirates will be on the road against Atlanta. And the Mt. Vernon will host Daingerfield. Mt. Pleasant, Hughes Springs, Paul Pewitt, Mt. Vernon, and Pittsburg softball teams have all locked in a playoff spot.

Sulphur Springs – Last night in district 15-5A softball the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats pick up a big win over district champion Hallsville 7-4. With the win the Lady Cats improve to 9-4 and have officially clinched a playoff birth. They’ll wrap up district play tonight when they host Pine Tree at 6pm. The Wildcat baseball team will be in Longview to face the Pirates at 7.

The Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers host Daingerfield to finish the regular season. And the Winnsboro Red Raiders will be on the road to visit Quitman. Post season action for area softball teams will begin with the Bi-District round on April 29th and 30th.

The Area track meet for district 15 and 16-5A began yesterday and will conclude this evening, beginning with the 1600 meter run. Sulphur springs high school will be represented by Imani Taylor, Faith Hatley, Abby Baier, Mackenzie Moore, Jaylon Hawkins, Jacob Gatewood, Ryan Humphries, Lawrence Worth and Bubba Hall.

In Major League Baseball the Texas Rangers win their 10th straight over the Houston Astros 7-4. AJ Griffin picked up his 2nd win of season. Ian Desmond carried the big stick last night. The 1st place Rangers at 10-6 return to the diamond tonight in Chicago against the White Sox. First pitch [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm] is set for 7:10.

In the NBA the Dallas Mavericks get blasted 131-102 to OKC in game three of the opening round playoffs. Five Thunder players scored 16 points or more, including a game high 34 from Kevin Durant. Dallas falls behind in the series 2-1 and play game four tomorrow at 7pm.

And tonight the Dallas Stars look to close out the opening round of the NHL playoffs against the Minnesota Wild. The Stars, holding a 3-1 series lead face off at 8:30.
