High School Scrimmages on Tap Plus Rangers Sweep Tigers

 

It’s time for a taste of high school football.  Area teams play their first scrimmages tomorrow.
Paris – The Prairiland Patriots host a fellow Red River Valley team as the Rivercrest Rebels grace Patriot Stadium at 7:00 pm. Before Prairiland and Rivercrest, the Chisum Mustangs will take on Howe at Prairiland at 5:00. In another Red River Valley game, the Honey Grove Warriors welcome in the Detroit Eagles at 6:00. The Paris Wildcats host the Celina Bobcats at Wildcat Stadium. North Lamar travels to Denison. The Cooper Bulldogs heads to Caddo Mills. Paris, North Lamar, and Cooper begin at 7:00. And on Saturday morning the Clarksville Tigers welcome in the Paul Pewitt Brahmas at 9:00 am.
Mount Pleasant – The Mt Pleasant Tigers head to Texarkana to play the Liberty Eylau Leopards. MPHS will also host ‘Meet the Tigers’ tonight at Willie Williams Gym. The Pittsburg Pirates will welcome in the Carthage Bulldogs tomorrow night. The Rivercrest Rebels make the short trip to visit the Prairiland Patriots. The Daingerfield Tigers will mix things up with Jefferson and Tatum at Tatum High School. The Mt Vernon Tigers are on the road at Canton. And the Paul Pewitt Brahmas travel to Red River County on Saturday to play the Clarksville Tigers at 9:00 am.
Sulphur Springs – The Cumby Trojans, Mt Vernon Tigers, and Commerce Tigers will be in action Friday. Cumby is on the road to visit Blue Ridge. Mt Vernon will make their travels down to Canton. And the Commerce Tigers will be at home to play host to Whitesboro. The Campbell Indians will be at home to scrimmage on Saturday at 9:00 am. Class 5A schools, Sulphur Springs, and Greenville will play their first scrimmages next weekend. Week one of the Texas High School Football season is August 31 and September 1.
The Texas Rangers complete a three game sweep of the Detroit Tigers after last night’s 12-6 win. It was an Elvis Andrus home run to center field that put the Rangers up for good. Elvis ended the night 3-for-5 with four RBI, three runs scored, a walk and a stolen base. The Rangers are two games within a wildcard spot in the American League. Texas will begin a four-game weekend series with the Chicago White Sox tonight. First pitch [on KPLT 1490am] is 7:05.
The Dallas Cowboys gear up for preseason game number three on Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts. Starters are expected to play, including linebacker Jaylon Smith. Kickoff on Saturday is at 6:00 pm.
And the Atlanta Falcons new billion-dollar stadium will be opening up this season. Inside the venue are restaurants that include Chick-fil-a. Seven of Atlanta’s eight home games in 2017 will be played on Sunday when the chicken sandwich shop is closed.
