Paris – Last night in area high school volleyball the 18th ranked North Lamar Pantherette’s breeze past Bonham at Panther gym 25-3, 25-22, and 25-5, improving to 20-6 on the season. The Chisum Lady Mustangs drop their district opener to Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill and the Prairiland Lady Patriots wrap up the pre-district season falling to Pleasant Grove.
Mount Pleasant – Last night the Chapel Hill Lady Devil volleyball team kicked off district play with a win over Chisum 25-22, 16-25, 25-22 and 26-24. Area high school football picks back up Friday night. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers begin district 16-5A play on KLAKE 97.7 against the Hallsville Bobcats. And on the Star Country Game of the Week the Mt. Vernon Tigers square off with the Grand Saline Indians. Games kick off at 7:30 Friday.
Sulphur Springs – Area high school football picks back up Friday night. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats kick off district 16-5A play on Star Country 95.9 when they travel to Longview to take on the Pine Tree Pirates. Cumby looks to remain undefeated when they visit Honey Grove. The Mt. Vernon Tigers begin district play against Grand Saline. Cooper is in a rivalry game against Prairiland and the Commerce Tigers hit the road for Farmersville.
Last night the Texas Rangers beat the LA Angels 5-4, cutting the Ranger magic number down to 2. Down by one run in the 4th inning, Nomar Mazara put Texas ahead for good with his 20th blast of the year. Mazara joins Roogie, Beltre, Ian Desmond and Mitch Moreland with at least 20 homers on the season. The Rangers and Angels finish the series up tonight [on kplt 1490am and 96.3fm]. First pitch is at 7:05.
College football returns this weekend starting tomorrow night with 5th ranked Clemson up against unbeaten Georgia Tech. Notable games on Saturday include 6th ranked Houston facing Texas State. Number 10 Texas A&M is in SEC play against 17th ranked Arkansas. Number 16 Baylor is facing Oklahoma State while number 8 Michigan State takes on 11th ranked Wisconsin.
On Sunday night the Dallas Cowboys play week 3 against the Chicago Bears [on 101.9 KBUS]. The Cowboys are 1-1 on the season, while Chicago brings an 0-2 record to AT&T Stadium. Kick off for Sunday night football is set for 7:30.
