High School Volleyball Plus Stars Season Begins Tomorrow

 

Paris – Area volleyball teams were in action last night, jockeying for playoff positioning. The North Lamar Pantherettes sweep the Pittsburg Lady Pirates for their 45th consecutive district match victory, dating back to 2012. The Paris Lady Cats keep pace for a playoff spot, beating Atlanta. The Chisum Lady Mustangs pull off an upset on senior night, defeating previously unbeaten and 15th ranked Mt. Vernon. And the Prairiland Lady Patriots fall in five sets to the Chapel Hill Lady Devils.

Mount Pleasant – Last night the Chapel Hill Lady Devils were in action on the volleyball court, taking down the Prairiland Lady Patriots in five sets. The win keeps Chapel Hill volleyball on the path for the post season. In high school football Friday night, the Mt. Vernon Tigers look to stay unbeaten in district play when they travel to take on state power, Mineola. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers look to keep their playoff hopes alive as they welcome in the 8th ranked Texas High Tigers to Sam Parker Field.

Sulphur Springs – Area volleyball teams were in action last night, keeping on pace for a district title, the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats defeated Greenville to improve to 7-2 in 16-5A. The Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers fell for the first time in district, losing to the Chisum Lady Mustangs on the road. In high school football Friday night, the Mt. Vernon Tigers look to stay unbeaten in district play when they travel to take on state power, Mineola. Meanwhile, the Cooper Bulldogs visit unbeaten Gunter. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats have a bye Friday night.

Last night in the National League Division series in Major League Baseball, the LA Dodgers beat the Washington Nationals 6-5 to draw even in the series 2-2. Meanwhile, the Chicago Cubs defeat the San Francisco Giants 6-5 as well, taking a 2 games to 1 lead in the division series. Both series will resume tomorrow night. The American League Championship series between Cleveland and Toronto starts Friday.

The Dallas Mavericks continued the pre-season last night, beating Oklahoma City 114-109. Big man, Dwight Powell, led the way for the Mavs with 16 points and seven rebounds. J.J. Barea added 15 points. The Mavs are back in pre-season action Friday night against the Phoenix Suns.

And tomorrow night the season begins for Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin and the Dallas Stars as they welcome the Anaheim Ducks to the American Airline Center. In the 2015-2016 season, a young Stars team finished with the most points in the Western Conference and defeated Minnesota in the first round of the playoffs before being eliminated by St. Louis. Puck drop tomorrow night is set for 7:30.
