Paris – Last night area volleyball teams were in action. The North Lamar Pantherette’s improve to 9-1 following a sweep of the Texas High Lady Tigers in their home debut. The Paris Lady Cats defeat Leonard on the road and the Prairiland Lady Patriots defeat Whitewright in three sets.
On Friday night will kick off the Texas High School football season. On 101.9 KBUS, the Paris Wildcats visit the Terrell Tigers. The North Lamar Panthers head to Southeast Oklahoma to take on Idabel on MIX 107.7. And for our KOYN Game of the Week the Rivercrest Rebels host the Chisum Mustangs at the Swamp. All games kick off at 7:30.
Mount Pleasant – Tomorrow and Friday kick off the opening week of Texas High School Football. The Daingerfield Tigers host the neighboring Hughes Springs Mustangs tomorrow in the STAR game of the week. Kick off on Star 96.9 is at 7:30. The Gilmer Buckeyes host Liberty Eylau Thursday evening as well. Friday night on K Lake 97.7 the Mt. Pleasant Tigers go to North Forney. Pittsburg will be on Star 96.9 as they travel to Crandall. Rivercest hosts Chisum at the Swamp. Paul Pewitt is at Sabine and Mt. Vernon is at Caddo Mills.
Sulphur Springs – The countdown continues to Week 1 of the Texas High School football season. On Friday night the Sulphur Springs Wildcats host Sherman at Prim Stadium. You can hear the game on Star Country 95.9. Kickoff is set for 7pm. The Cooper Bulldogs hit the road to take on Farmersville. Commerce will travel to Lone Oak. Como Pickton is at Grand Saline. Winnsboro will visit West Rusk. Emory Rains will host Quinlan Ford and Mt. Vernon will be on the road at Caddo Mills. All games begin at 7:30.
Tomorrow night the Dallas Cowboys play pre-season game number three as they travel to face the Seattle Seahawks. Cowboys rookie running back, Ezekiel Elliott, is expected to make his debut after missing the last three week nursing a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, receiver Dez Bryant and defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford will sit out with concussions. Kickoff tomorrow night [on 101.9 KBUS] is set for 9pm.
Last night the Texas Rangers get blanked in a 3-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. Despite the loss, Derek Holland was solid, going six innings and giving up one run on four hits with five strikeouts. The Rangers drop to 73-53, but lead the AL West by 5 1/2 games over the Seattle Mariners. Texas and Cincinnati wrap up their short two game set this evening [on kplt 1490am and 96.3fm]. First pitch is set for 6:10pm.
In other Rangers news, the club announced they have released outfielder Josh Hamilton. The former AL MVP underwent season ending surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee and expected to make a recovery. The Rangers organization says they’re open to Hamilton returning to the team on a minor league deal in 2017.
