Honey Grove and Mt. Vernon Girls Playoffs Plus NASCAR in Today’s Sports

Paris – The area round of girls high school basketball begins tonight for local teams.  This evening  features a top 25 match up between the 25th ranked Honey Grove Lady Warriors and 15th ranked Union Grove.  The game will be played at Emory Rains high school at 6:30.  The Clarksville Lady Tigers are up against Bells with a 6pm tip off at Wildcat gym in Paris, with the winner advancing to the regional quarterfinals to play the winner of Honey Grove and Union Grove. And the Cooper Dogettes take on 8th ranked Alba Golden tonight at 6pm at Mt. Pleasant high school.

Match ups on the boys side, the Paris Wildcats play Spring Hill on Tuesday at Emory Rains. Game time on 101.9 KBUS is set for 7:30.  North Lamar will play on MIX 107.7 at Sulphur Springs high school against Gilmer on Tuesday at 7pm.

 

MP – The area round of girls high school basketball wraps up tonight for local teams.  This evening the 16th ranked Chapel Hill Lady Devils are on the air on Star 96.9 when they take on Whitewright.  The game will be played at Sulphur Springs high school. Tip off is at 6pm.  While at 7:30 Friday night 7th ranked Winnsboro plays DeKalb at Mt. Pleasant high school.  The winner will face  the Mt Vernon Lady Tigers, who yesterday evening handled Harmony handily 68-39.  Alissa Hill led the way for Mt. Vernon’s girls with 25 points.

The bi-district round for area boys basketball teams is set for Monday and Tuesday. First the 25th ranked Daingerfield Tigers take on Chisum on Monday at 7pm at Prairiland high school.  The Mt. Pleasant Tigers take on the Lufkin Panthers. The game will be played at Tatum high school with tip off at 7pm.  Mt. Vernon plays Hooks.  And the Chapel Hill boys play Prairiland at Mt. Pleasant high school at 8pm.

 

SS – Last night the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats saw their season come to an end at the hands of Mansfield Summit 67-32.  The Lady Cats finish the season with a 26-7 overall record.  The area round of girls high school basketball continues this evening.  The Mt Vernon Lady Tigers, yesterday evening handled Harmony handily 68-39.  Alissa Hill led the way for Mt. Vernon’s girls with 25 points. Next up for the purple Lady Tigers is the regional quarterfinal round against the winner of 7th ranked Winnsboro and DeKalb.  And the Cooper Dogettes take on 8th ranked Alba Golden tonight at 6pm at Mt. Pleasant high school.  Meanwhile, in the bi-district round of the boys basketball playoffs next week, the Mt. Vernon Tigers will take on the Hooks Hornets. Commerce will play Alba Golden and North Hopkins is up against Wolfe City

And in college hoops tomorrow night the Texas A&M Commerce Lions host Eastern New Mexico at the Fieldhouse.  Tip off is set for 6pm.

 

Last night in the NHL the Dallas Stars fall to the Arizona Coyotes 6-3.  The Stars remain in 2nd place in the Western conference and will be back on the ice tomorrow night at the American Airline Center to take on Boston.  Puck drop is at 7pm.

 

Tonight the Mavs return to action following the All-Star break.  They’ll be in Orlando to take on the Magic.  At 29-26, the Mavs are 6th in the West.  Tip off this evening is set for 6pm.
Only two days left until Daytona.  In 2004 we witnessed one the most touching moment in Nascar history take place at the Daytona International Speedway.  Three years after the passing of his father, Dale Earnhart, his son Dale junior won the 2004 Daytona 500.  Meanwhile, just last night, Junior won the first of this years Can-Am duels to ensure a qualifying spot in Sunday’s race.  The green flag for Daytona drops at noon.
