The Branded Ranch Rodeo Ribbon Cutting was Wednesday, May 18, at noon, at the Civic Center

Those attended got a feel of the rodeo first hand.  We met the cowboys that will be performing this Saturday, May 2st and they and their horses joined us in the arena for the Ribbon Cutting Picture.  This rodeo event starts at 3 p.m. with free chuck wagon ‘fixins’.  It’s $5.00 a person and kids under 5 are free.  Gizmo the rodeo clown will be performing and there will be a balloon artist to make characters out of balloons.  There will be a live band for your entertainment as well as the top cowboys, by invitation only, performing bull riding and bronc riding as well as sortin’, brandin’, muggin’, mutton bustin’, wild cow milkin’ and calf scramble.  These are daily activities that actual ranch hands perform daily.  It’s a time of sheer pleasure and entertainment for the entire family.  It’s a non-profit organization, hosted and endorsed by local cowboy churches,  and all the proceeds go to Community Seeds, a community outreach organization providing care for the less fortunate. It’s a faith-based, non-profit 501(c)(3), providing services and programs for the less fortunate and underserved in Hunt, Rains and Hopkins county.  Please come enjoy the evening and help support such a worthwhile organizationFor more information, please visit www.brandedranchrodeo.com

Del Francis 74 years-old, will leave Sulphur Springs, TX at 12:00 noon, June 3, 2016, from the downtown plaza to start his bicycle ride to Washington, D. C. to honor his 74 shipmates who were lost in Vietnam.  The purpose of this ride is to have their names added to the Vietnam Memorial Wall.  June 3, 1969 at 3:00 a.m. the Frank E. Evans DD 754 was cut in half with the front half sinking within 2 minutes.  74 men died.  They had just left the “Gun Lien’ firing in support of ground troops in Viet Nam.    It was the second largest loss of life for the Navy in the Vietnam War.  Because they were 100 miles outside “the official Combat Zone” they are not listed on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, DC.  Please come support Del Francis as he starts this journey to honor our fallen.
