The Hopkins County Commissioners Court met in regular session on Monday morning. They approved the budget and set a tax rate of 40.02 cents per hundred dollars for property valuation. That’s about nine cents less than last year. Your tax bill, however, may not be lower because of rising property valuations. No one spoke for or against the tax rate in the public hearing.
The commissioners tabled any action on a tax abatement for Sligsog Company, which is planning a 515-acre solar farm in the county. County residents had many comments about the solar farm, most of them negative.
The court also heard a presentation by representatives of Tenaska about a proposed Carbon Capture and storage facility. It would use approximately 20,000 acres and minerals between 3,000 and 5,000 feet underground. The facility would also utilize three to five injection wells.
