The Texas Commission on Jail Standards has removed the Hopkins County Jail from its non-compliance list. They placed the jail on the list after failing an inspection last November that showed of the 25 inmates in the holding cells, 21 were there more than 48 hours. They also cited the jail for having 16 inmates in a holding cell with a rating for ten. Jail officials say they held inmates in holding cells for more than 48 hours to check COVID-19 before being housed in the general population.
