Hopkins County Phone Scam

Hopkins County deputies are investigating a phone scam, where the caller told a Como man that he had to immediately come to town to pay a fine or a warrant would be issued for his arrest. The caller had a strong Indian accent, and the intended victim said the caller ID showed 903-438-4040, which is the sheriff’s office number. Investigator Lewis Tatum, says the sheriff’s office never does business that way, and if warrants are issued, they are personally served by a deputy.
