Sulphur Springs City Manager Marc Maxwell issued a statement shortly before noon on Sunday, reporting that virtually all city streets are slick with snow and ice, urging everyone to stay off the roads. While the roads appear to be only covered by a thin layer of snow, they are extremely icy underneath. The city’s sanding machine, which the city uses to spread a mixture on intersections and streets to make them passable, is broken and can’t be repaired. Police have responded to numerous cars in the ditch, and there was an 18-wheeler jack-knifed on Bill Bradford Road. County first responders report roads throughout the county are incredibly slippery. TxDot crews have been out for hours treating bridges, overpasses, and major roadways with a mixture to help provide a bit more traction. Traffic on I-30 is passable but very slow.
